Prerequisites: This 3-day course is open to Veterinarians and Physical Therapists who have successfully completed Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation and The Canine Rehabilitation Therapist. Veterinarians and Physical Therapists that are CCRPs are welcome.

Course Description: Canine Neurological Rehabilitation focuses on the canine nervous system and its application to rehabilitation. The basics of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, physical therapy and rehabilitation are introduced. Students get hands-on experience with dogs on site as they learn how to perform a neurologic exam and apply neurophysiological facilitation techniques. Developing goal-focused treatment plans and assessing outcomes in canine neuro-rehabilitation patients are also covered.

This course is now RACE approved by the AAVSB. Veterinarians will earn 24 continuing education hours for successful completion of this 3-day course.

This course is accredited by the Florida Physical Therapy Association for 24 continuing education hours for physical therapists. Accreditation of this course does not necessarily imply the FPTA supports the views of the presenter or the sponsors.

Course Fee: $995    (Note: The fee for this course will be $1,095 for classes beginning after June 1, 2012.)

Topics Covered Include:

  • The basic layout and function of the components of the canine nervous system, and the role each plays in locomotion and rehabilitation
  • Performing a canine neurologic examination looking specifically at limb and spinal cord-related functions
  • Applying neurophysiologic facilitation techniques to canine rehabilitation patients with locomotion pathologies
  • The formulation and progression of goal-focused functional treatment plans for canine neuro-rehabilitation patients
  • Incorporating objective outcomes into the assessment of canine neuro-rehabilitation patients with locomotion pathologies

At the end of DAY 3, students are given an open-book, take-home final exam that they have 30 days to complete. Collaboration with fellow classmates is encouraged.
